What is the difference between integrated and freestanding kitchen appliances?
Integrated appliances are designed to sit inside your cabinetry, hidden behind a matching furniture door front that matches your kitchen style. This creates a clean, unbroken, and minimalist aesthetic. Freestanding appliances are self-contained units (like a standard American fridge-freezer or a slot-in cooker) that can be easily moved, placed anywhere with a power or water source, and taken with you if you move house.
How do I know if an appliance is the right size for my new kitchen cabinets?
Most major appliance brands construct built-in appliances to standard European and UK housing dimensions. For example, standard integrated single ovens are generally 60cm wide, designed to fit perfectly into a standard 600mm wide housing unit. However, because depths, internal ventilation clearance, and height margins vary across premium brands, our design team always checks the exact manufacturer technical specification sheets (tech specs) before any cabinetry is built or ordered.
What are the main benefits of choosing an induction hob over a gas hob?
Induction hobs cook food faster and safer than gas. They use electromagnetism to heat the pan directly, rather than heating the air or glass surface around it. This means:
Safety: The hob surface stays relatively cool to the touch, drastically reducing burn risks.
Efficiency: Almost no heat energy is wasted into the room, transferring over 90% of the energy directly to your food (compared to around 50% with gas).
Easy Cleaning: Spills and splashes won’t bake or burn onto the glass, allowing you to easily wipe it clean instantly.
What is a pyrolytic self-cleaning oven, and how does it work?
Pyrolytic cleaning is an automatic oven cleaning cycle that heats the oven cavity to extreme temperatures of around 500°C. At this temperature, stubborn grease, baked-on food, and oil splatters are carbonized and reduced to a fine, grey ash. Once the cycle finishes and the oven cools down safely, you simply sweep or wipe away the ash with a damp cloth—eliminating the need for harsh chemicals or scrubbing.
Do I need an external extractor vent, or can I use a recirculating cooker hood?
You can use either, depending on your kitchen layout:
Ducted/Extracted: Vents grease, steam, and odors directly outside through a wall or ceiling pipe. It is highly efficient and requires no replacement filters, but requires access to an external wall.
Recirculating: Draws air through grease and charcoal filters to clean it before venting the air back into the room. It can be installed anywhere in your kitchen but requires replacing the charcoal filters every 3 to 6 months to stay effective.
What type of warranty comes with high-end integrated kitchen appliances?
Most premium appliance manufacturers (such as NEFF, Siemens, Miele, and Bosch) supply a standard 2-year manufacturer’s warranty covering parts and labor from the date of installation. However, during promotional windows or when specifying a full suite of appliances through an authorised built-in specialist, this coverage is frequently upgraded to a 5-year promotional warranty at no extra cost. We handle the technical registration of your serial numbers upon project completion to ensure your entire functional ecosystem is completely protected.
When should I choose my appliances: before, during, or after the kitchen design process?
Appliances must be selected during the initial technical design phase—well before any cabinetry is manufactured. Your choice of equipment fundamentally dictates the infrastructure of the room. For example, opting for an induction venting hob requires a specific internal drawer layout to accommodate under-counter ducting, while a premium boiling water tap dictates the plumbing clearances required within the sink base unit. Locking in your exact appliance list early allows us to map out utility, gas, and electrical positions with millimeter precision.
If an integrated appliance breaks down years later, do I have to replace the cabinet door too?
No, you do not. Integrated appliances are engineered to completely independent industrial size frameworks. If an integrated dishwasher or under-counter fridge fails ten years from now, the matching custom furniture door can be unclipped from the old appliance carcass and remounted onto a new model. Because European appliance housings adhere to standardized dimensions, changing units does not require altering your kitchen cabinets or bespoke joinery.
